A week of craft events
The Great Heal’s Bodging Race took place last week on Tottenham Road where 6 world-renowned designers competed to create bespoke chairs. This was part of Heal’s Modern Craft Market where the stores windows were transformed into ‘live retail theater’ where passers-by could watch the chairs being made from the high street. We were pleasantly surprised to see EMIR Dual Woodwork benches being used by the craftsmen to create the chairs which look as though they had been previously used in schools and colleges.
What is ‘bodging’?
Bodging is the craft of using natural materials to create chair legs and braces. The craft goes back about five hundred years and it is thought the name is derived from Badger as they both spent the whole day in the wood and came out in the evening.

Voting took place throughout the week and the winning designer will have their chair exclusively made for Heal’s and available for purchase.
